Dynamism, energy, and passion

Cheondoong Performing Arts Society is a non-profit performance organization that plays traditional Korean percussion music with modernistic originality. Dynamic synchronization of beats and rhythms from various routes with vibrant dance movements offers a truly one-of-a-kind performance experience. Four different percussion instruments are used in harmony to create the heart-stirring sound of Cheondoong, with drums called buk being the main instrument of choice. The word Cheondoong translates to thunder in English. Like the sound of thunder, Cheondoong delivers dynamism, energy, and passion through its performance.

Mission

  1. To demonstrate dynamic nature and unique beats of Korean percussion music.
  2. To enrich the variety of art and enhance the engagement and appreciation of cultural diversity by the general public
  3. To entertain and educate multicultural audiences about Korean culture, music and heritage.

History

Cheondoong Performing Arts Society began as a small performance team based at St. Andrew Kim Catholic Church in November of 2004. Organized and trained by Master Kim, Sung Il, the team quickly transformed from a group of inexperienced individuals into semi-professional performers delivering exciting performances across the Lower Mainland. Cheondoong has given over fifty performances since its establishment, and the team's fame and popularity is growing very rapidly. The goals and objectives of Cheondoong Performing Arts Society extend beyond any cultural or religious boundaries.
